Tala, a simple app to make you Relax
Tala was an app i designed with my friend Abdullah Joseph as an attempt to see how we can decluter one’s mind through simple tasks. It proposed an interesting research opportunity which i took on with a smile on my face.
Heider and simmel research
An experimental study of apparent behavior.
They showed an audience of 120 people the animation on above and asked them what do they see. each individual had a different story, a home invasion, kids playing etc.. only 3 people stated that those are just shapes moving around on the screen.
So what is the conclusion here, the obvious one is that humans are storytelling mammals. The other is, we want to care and associate things, by finding the meaning of it or if not, creating a meaning of our own. And that is regardless of it’s subject matter. It can be a simple shape, to a movie and etc …
Highlights that our brains once our minds are not fed with information, it will go free.Once you remove all the distractions, your mind freed to explore and to form its own narratives.
Orfeu M. Buxton
Associate Professor of Biobehavioral Health
Natural sounds like rain, waves, wind are the sounds of non-threats, which is why they work to calm people,’ Buxton, told Live Science.
‘It’s like they’re saying: ‘Don’t worry, don’t worry, don’t worry.’
‘The type of noise defines if you will wake up or not, controlling for the volume, because the noise information is processed by our brain differently,’ Buxton told Live Science.
These calming sounds can also block out noises that the brain would interpret as threats.
A playlist that features a summer rainstorm or a babbling brook might mask an external ‘acoustic insult,’ like a housemate flushing the toilet in a nearby part of the house, Buxton explained.
It served as the base of what the app is going to be. Slowly started forming more and more about how its going to look like which is what you see bellow.
